I have 35 years of temperature data. I have the average of each day in a column. However, my data is noisy. How can I smooth the data? Do I need a filter and how would I do this?b I would like to send you the file but I can not attach files. PLEASE HELP!

Excel Facts

Which lookup functions find a value equal or greater than the lookup value?
MATCH uses -1 to find larger value (lookup table must be sorted ZA). XLOOKUP uses 1 to find values greater and does not need to be sorted.
I think you need to decide for yourself exactly how you would like to smooth the data, and then, if you can't work out how to do that in Excel, we might be able to help you.

At one extreme, you've already smoothed the data a little, by taking daily averages.
At the opposite extreme, you could just average ALL your data, to produce one single number.
Another, slightly more realistic option, would be to calculate annual averages.
And there are many, many more ways.
For example, you could ignore any value that is more than a certain distance away from a mean.
But you've got to decide for yourself whether or not such an approach would be appropriate to your situation.
Once you've done that, we may be able to help you do it in Excel.

You were asking what I wanted the data to be like. The data is not smooth. It is noisy. THe post 3 It is an example to what the data should look like.

You were asking how I wanted to be to be like. In post 3 I have an example to what the data should look like. Right now it is noisy, numbers jump around.

OK so post 3 is an example of what the data should look like ? Thanks for explaining that.
Now, what does the original data look like ?
