New to arrays - Array not returning values

Hello all,

I am trying to use arrays for the first time and I am flummoxed! Although the array seems to be populating when I write the values to it, any attempt to read those values fail as nothing is returned. Now I KNOW that this is my stupidity and I have checked and rechecked the code that I cobbled together but I simply cannot see where I am going wrong. Any help would be hugely appreciated.

I would like to write the array to a range in Sheet1 but no values are returned and when I test with debug.print it seems that the array contains only 3 or 4 values instead of the dozens that were written to it. Please forgive my messy code!

Code:

Dim SheetCounter As Integer 'Used to count sheets
Dim MasterCount As Long 'Used to store number of unique keys

The code should be doing all of that with the exception that, if a customer buys 5 items in one month, they will be counted as a retained customer 5 times.
Can you check that it's working apart from the retained customer part?

Excel Facts

Which came first: VisiCalc or Lotus 1-2-3?
Dan Bricklin and Bob Frankston debuted VisiCalc in 1979 as a Visible Calculator. Lotus 1-2-3 debuted in the early 1980's, from Mitch Kapor.
Will do. I'll need to start from scratch as I managed to break the code trying to read the array from the monthly sheet instead of the range on the Master sheet. I'll confirm once I have it working. Many thanks.

OK, had a quick look. The calculations seem to be off. The code shows 7 new and 58 retained customers in Sep, the first month which is impossible. I did a manual calculation and it looks like there should be 52 new and 18 retained customers.

I 'm working through the code now to see if I can pick up why.

If I bought something from you prior to Sep 2018 (ie already in the Master List) & then bought something else in Sep 18, should I be a new or retained customer?

You would be a retained customer. Bear in mind that the first month of data is Sep 2018 as that is when the business started.

This why I am questioning my decision to use a master list in the first place. Would not be better to simply run the code against all the transactions from Sep 2018 and compare it against another array?

If you don't have a Master List, then you will always have to "start from scratch" as time moves on that means more & more data to be searched, which will slow things down.
Personally I'd have a Master List, and run the macro "now" for all data upto March & store that on a sheet, then next month I'd run the macro on just the April sheet, then just the May sheet etc. adding the new/retained stats to which ever sheet they're stored on.

Give this a shot
Code:
Sub Beemerang()
Dim Ws As Worksheet
   Dim MasterArray As Variant, NewCustArray As Variant, RetainedCustArray As Variant
   Dim i As Long
   Dim Dic As Object, dic2 As Object
   Dim RefCell As Range
   Dim UniqueKey As String

   Set Dic = CreateObject("scripting.dictionary")
   Set dic2 = CreateObject("scripting.dictionary")
   ReDim NewCustArray(1 To Sheets.Count, 1 To 2)

'   With Sheets("Master List")
'      MasterArray = .Range("A1", .Range("B" & Rows.Count).End(xlUp)).Value2
'   End With
'   For i = 1 To UBound(MasterArray)
'      Dic.Item(MasterArray(i, 1)) = MasterArray(i, 2)
'   Next i

   i = 0
   For Each Ws In Worksheets
      If Ws.Name <> "Report" And Ws.Name <> "LTV" And Ws.Name <> "Master List" Then
         i = i + 1
         NewCustArray(i, 1) = Ws.Name
         RetainedCustArray(i, 1) = Ws.Name
         For Each RefCell In Ws.Range("A2", Ws.Range("A" & Rows.Count).End(xlUp))
            If RefCell.Offset(, 1).Value = "Settled Successfully" Then
               UniqueKey = RefCell.Offset(, 27).Value & RefCell.Offset(, 30).Value
               If Not Dic.Exists(UniqueKey) Then
                  Dic.Add UniqueKey, Ws.Name
                  NewCustArray(i, 2) = NewCustArray(i, 2) + 1
               ElseIf Not dic2.Exists(UniqueKey) Then
                  dic2.Add UniqueKey, Nothing
                  RetainedCustArray(i, 2) = RetainedCustArray(i, 2) + 1
               End If
            End If
         Next RefCell
      End If
      dic2.RemoveAll
   Next Ws
   Sheets("Master List").Range("A1").Resize(12, 2).Value = NewCustArray
   Sheets("Master List").Range("D1").Resize(12, 2).Value = RetainedCustArray
End Sub

Wow, thank you Fluff! I wan't expecting you to spend any more time on this, I really appreciate the help!

It skips Sep 2018 for some reason and the figures for Oct still don't look right but I am doing a manual check as we speak. Thanks so much!

If it's skipped Sep then Oct will be wrong as every customer will be treated as a new customer.
For the time being, does it just need to look at sheets Sep 2018 to Mar 2019?
