Hi

I am trying to find a an excel VBA code which can install an external program downloaded to a folder.

I have searched around google but in vain.

Please help

I am trying to gift an excel file to someone, which shall use some features of external program and shall generate the required outcome for him.

I am trying that my friend does nothing to install, and only uses the outcome of this, in his daily routine, and also i do not want him to know, how i did this with some VBA features.

Excel Facts

Formula for Yesterday
Name Manager, New Name. Yesterday =TODAY()-1. OK. Then, use =YESTERDAY in any cell. Tomorrow could be =TODAY()+1.
You want to install an executable file on somebody elses computer without their knowledge?

Isn't that a bit risky security wise?

In fact trying to do it might have other implications for the other person.

This is high risk and your uncertainty is evident
may not impact the other person computer.

Be nice and offer the gift in the normal manner. Whilst your intentions are most likely honourable.....I wouldn't do it !! and we don't know that your are being honest about planting any .exe file on another persons PC, (no offence intended)

To be honest, I don't think you'll get any further assistance on this forum with this request

Michael M Thanks for taking pain on this, But it is very clear, because, if wordweb application is not creating any problem to my system then definitely it shall not have any problem to my friend's. The reason is, we both have the same confiuration of the computer.

Moreover, i did not mean so much in using "May" in my words, as you perceived.

Please assist me, that could be useful for everyone across the board.

Sorry, as stated earlier, I think it's beyond my expertise AND I don't think you'll get assistance from others.
Please understand, that while you make, what seems like, a valid request for the code, others do not know whether what you say is actually true.
This is no reflection on you, but simply a concern that they may be helping you invade another persons PC. This would then reflect badly on the posters, this Forum, AND Mr Excel in general.
I know you have stated that the app you want to attach is http://wordweb.info/free /.....but once you have this code who's to say you don't use it for another, less desirable app.

I think it's time the Moderators made a call on this thread and decided which way to proceed with it.

I'm confident that it's not possible for 'mere' VBA code to bypass all the various Windows security safeguards which kick in when an application starts to copy programs to system folders, modify the Registry, etc. If it were that easy, the writers of installation programs would be doing it, and they're not. A hole that large in Windows' security would be a field day for the writers of malicious software.

My advice would be to forget it.

Thanks for the backup explanation. I'm more than sure, that what you say is true !!!

I'm sorry to contradict you but this is simply not true. If you build two computers with identical hardware and software, as soon as they're used for the first time they become different. I've worked at organisations where identical machines were set up with identical images and behaved differently from each other.

You cannot be sure that a program will not cause problems on someone else's machine just because it hasn't caused problems on yours (yet).

Ok, thanks again for considering in your considertaion.

Hope, there can be a solution depending upon the number of windows that appear and using the sendkeys for each window that appears. This shall be depending upon the installation of software requirement. I think excel (or MS excel) can provide the solutions which we dream of.

I am specifically looking for wordweb.

Thanks again
