Hi, hope someone can help...

I have multiple sheet (April, May, June, July...etc) and want to average values on each of the sheets.

Ex:

Sheet: April

Joe 10 54
John 15 64
Sarah 25 18

All sheets are the same. I've been using the average formula and vlookups to find the corresponding number on each sheet.

But some sheets have blank cells (giving #value errors) and I want to ignore these cells, not change them to 0's which would affect the overall average. I don't want to ignore 0's either because there are valid 0's on these sheets.

I've looked everywhere and am newer to the advanced formulas in excel. Hopefully someone can help me out here.

Thank You!

Will the fill handle fill 1, 2, 3?
Yes! Type 1 in a cell. Hold down Ctrl while you drag the fill handle.
Thanks for helping but unfortunately...I can't get either of those to work... :(
You can use a shorter formula if you list the sheet names in a range of cells:

Sheet1

<TABLE style="PADDING-RIGHT: 2pt; PADDING-LEFT: 2pt; FONT-SIZE: 10pt; FONT-FAMILY: Verdana,Arial; BACKGROUND-COLOR: #ffffff" cellSpacing=0 cellPadding=0 border=0><COLGROUP><COL style="FONT-WEIGHT: bold; WIDTH: 30px"><COL style="WIDTH: 116px"></COLGROUP><TBODY><TR style="FONT-WEIGHT: bold; FONT-SIZE: 8pt; BACKGROUND-COLOR: #cacaca; TEXT-ALIGN: center"><TD> </TD><TD>A</TD></TR><TR style="HEIGHT: 17px"><TD style="FONT-SIZE: 8pt; BACKGROUND-COLOR: #cacaca; TEXT-ALIGN: center">10</TD><TD style="BORDER-RIGHT: #000000 1px solid; BORDER-TOP: #000000 1px solid; BORDER-LEFT: #000000 1px solid; BORDER-BOTTOM: #000000 1px solid; TEXT-ALIGN: right">April 2011</TD></TR><TR style="HEIGHT: 17px"><TD style="FONT-SIZE: 8pt; BACKGROUND-COLOR: #cacaca; TEXT-ALIGN: center">11</TD><TD style="BORDER-TOP-WIDTH: 1px; BORDER-RIGHT: #000000 1px solid; BORDER-LEFT: #000000 1px solid; BORDER-TOP-COLOR: #000000; BORDER-BOTTOM: #000000 1px solid; TEXT-ALIGN: right">May 2011</TD></TR><TR style="HEIGHT: 17px"><TD style="FONT-SIZE: 8pt; BACKGROUND-COLOR: #cacaca; TEXT-ALIGN: center">12</TD><TD style="BORDER-TOP-WIDTH: 1px; BORDER-RIGHT: #000000 1px solid; BORDER-LEFT: #000000 1px solid; BORDER-TOP-COLOR: #000000; BORDER-BOTTOM: #000000 1px solid; TEXT-ALIGN: right">June 2011</TD></TR><TR style="HEIGHT: 17px"><TD style="FONT-SIZE: 8pt; BACKGROUND-COLOR: #cacaca; TEXT-ALIGN: center">13</TD><TD style="BORDER-TOP-WIDTH: 1px; BORDER-RIGHT: #000000 1px solid; BORDER-LEFT: #000000 1px solid; BORDER-TOP-COLOR: #000000; BORDER-BOTTOM: #000000 1px solid; TEXT-ALIGN: right">July 2011</TD></TR><TR style="HEIGHT: 17px"><TD style="FONT-SIZE: 8pt; BACKGROUND-COLOR: #cacaca; TEXT-ALIGN: center">14</TD><TD style="BORDER-TOP-WIDTH: 1px; BORDER-RIGHT: #000000 1px solid; BORDER-LEFT: #000000 1px solid; BORDER-TOP-COLOR: #000000; BORDER-BOTTOM: #000000 1px solid; TEXT-ALIGN: right">August 2011</TD></TR><TR style="HEIGHT: 17px"><TD style="FONT-SIZE: 8pt; BACKGROUND-COLOR: #cacaca; TEXT-ALIGN: center">15</TD><TD style="BORDER-TOP-WIDTH: 1px; BORDER-RIGHT: #000000 1px solid; BORDER-LEFT: #000000 1px solid; BORDER-TOP-COLOR: #000000; BORDER-BOTTOM: #000000 1px solid; TEXT-ALIGN: right">September 2011</TD></TR><TR style="HEIGHT: 17px"><TD style="FONT-SIZE: 8pt; BACKGROUND-COLOR: #cacaca; TEXT-ALIGN: center">16</TD><TD style="BORDER-TOP-WIDTH: 1px; BORDER-RIGHT: #000000 1px solid; BORDER-LEFT: #000000 1px solid; BORDER-TOP-COLOR: #000000; BORDER-BOTTOM: #000000 1px solid; TEXT-ALIGN: right">October 2011</TD></TR><TR style="HEIGHT: 17px"><TD style="FONT-SIZE: 8pt; BACKGROUND-COLOR: #cacaca; TEXT-ALIGN: center">17</TD><TD style="BORDER-TOP-WIDTH: 1px; BORDER-RIGHT: #000000 1px solid; BORDER-LEFT: #000000 1px solid; BORDER-TOP-COLOR: #000000; BORDER-BOTTOM: #000000 1px solid; TEXT-ALIGN: right">November 2011</TD></TR><TR style="HEIGHT: 17px"><TD style="FONT-SIZE: 8pt; BACKGROUND-COLOR: #cacaca; TEXT-ALIGN: center">18</TD><TD style="BORDER-TOP-WIDTH: 1px; BORDER-RIGHT: #000000 1px solid; BORDER-LEFT: #000000 1px solid; BORDER-TOP-COLOR: #000000; BORDER-BOTTOM: #000000 1px solid; TEXT-ALIGN: right">December 2011</TD></TR><TR style="HEIGHT: 17px"><TD style="FONT-SIZE: 8pt; BACKGROUND-COLOR: #cacaca; TEXT-ALIGN: center">19</TD><TD style="BORDER-TOP-WIDTH: 1px; BORDER-RIGHT: #000000 1px solid; BORDER-LEFT: #000000 1px solid; BORDER-TOP-COLOR: #000000; BORDER-BOTTOM: #000000 1px solid; TEXT-ALIGN: right">January 2012</TD></TR><TR style="HEIGHT: 17px"><TD style="FONT-SIZE: 8pt; BACKGROUND-COLOR: #cacaca; TEXT-ALIGN: center">20</TD><TD style="BORDER-TOP-WIDTH: 1px; BORDER-RIGHT: #000000 1px solid; BORDER-LEFT: #000000 1px solid; BORDER-TOP-COLOR: #000000; BORDER-BOTTOM: #000000 1px solid; TEXT-ALIGN: right">February 2012</TD></TR><TR style="HEIGHT: 17px"><TD style="FONT-SIZE: 8pt; BACKGROUND-COLOR: #cacaca; TEXT-ALIGN: center">21</TD><TD style="BORDER-TOP-WIDTH: 1px; BORDER-RIGHT: #000000 1px solid; BORDER-LEFT: #000000 1px solid; BORDER-TOP-COLOR: #000000; BORDER-BOTTOM: #000000 1px solid; TEXT-ALIGN: right">March 2012</TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE>

Make sure you enter them as TEXT entries. Don't let Excel convert them to dates!

Give this range of cells the defined named range "Sheets".

Then the formula becomes:

=SUMPRODUCT(SUMIF(INDIRECT("'"&Sheets&"'!A3:A10"),A4,INDIRECT("'"&Sheets&"'!F3:F10")))/SUMPRODUCT(COUNTIF(INDIRECT("'"&Sheets&"'!A3:A10"),A4))

I'm sorry if I'm not understanding...What are A3:A10 and F3:F10 referring to?

And how do you define this and name it....(I warned I was new... :)

Thank You

A3:A10 is the 1st column of your VLOOKUP table. Adjust this to suit your needs.

F3:F10 is the column that your VLOOKUP formula would be getting its result from. Adjust this to suit your needs.

To create the named range...

Let's assume you have those sheet names typed into the cells from A10 to A21.

Select the range of cells A10:A21
Goto the menu Insert>Name>Define
Name: Sheets
Refers to: =$A$10:$A$21
OK out
