Greetings all,

I'm considering Excel/VBA consulting as career choice. Ideally, I'd like to start with a consulting company writing macros and/or doing on-site training , with the ultimate goal being to go into business for myself. Does anyone have any advice to impart, companies to suggest, etc? (Mr. Excel, are you hiring? :-D )

Any thoughts you have on the subject would be much appreciated, thanks!

Career in Excel Macros/ Excel Products

Hi,
I am located in Mumbai,India. I am an auditor(Chartered Accountant by qualification, equivalent to CPA in US) and have been working since past one year. For my professional requirements, I have been using excel a lot and have acquired good deal of proficiency in it. Since the past 2-3 months I have been exploring the field of excel macros as well.
Since I have started using excel, I have become very much fond of the software and it has got a tremendous boost when I started developing macros too.
These days, I am seriously considering the idea of making a career in developing excel macros or excel products. In that context, I have the following queries:-

1)What is the scope for such a kind of career? Is there anyone amongst you who is doing something like this?
2)What are the opportunities in Mumbai/India?
3)I have so far learnt the macro coding primarily on my own. Is it necessary to undergo some formal course in it too? Do I need to learn VB as well?
4)Which are good books/websites on macros?
5)Currently I do the coding of macros step-by-step. Is there any website where readymade templates of frequently required codes are available, especially codes like looping which cannot be recorded using macro recorder?
6)Is there any good Indian online forum on Excel Macros?

I would really appreciate any kind of guidance on any or all of the above queries.

Thanks in advance,
Nachiket Pendharkar
