Yearly Gridlines

We use a mix of Excel 2013 and 2016.

We have a chart displaying 4 years of monthly data.
They would like a vertical black line at each year boundary.

I tried adding a picture but that didn't work.

As you can see, all I can get is vertical lines for every month.

It looks like you should set the major to year, but that doesn't have any effect.

I'm not actually showing any labels on the axis itself. Those are in the cells below the chart.

Any ideas?
