XLSB file size

Hi!

Using Excel 2007. I work with XLSB to optimize file sizes.

I have a huge data table (file size 16 MB). I put it into a file with some analysis (some pivot tables without saving data, some formula driven tables). File size went up by less than 1 MB. Great.

Then I did some formula changes, added a sheet with only 12 cells used (!). File size went to 34 MB. I closed the file, reopened, saved again, down to 23 MB. But there it is. Still some 6 MB too much.

What's wrong? Any way to force Excel to save as little as possible?

That sounds like it should be OK. But one last test would be to clear all formatting and see what the file size is ( i.e. copy the sheet in to a new book, etc etc ).

Clearing all formatting reduces file size by only one MB.

Copy/Paste values now goes to 21 MB.

Getting the formulas back (in three columns) and again above 30 MB (which does make no sense, since the same file with formatting was smaller!

I think it's time to make a new file, with new sheets, and copy only the values/formats/range names/VBA over. See what size that file is.

Right, this I essentially tried as described in my previous comment.

Okay sorry, I thought you'd 'move or copy'd the sheet using the sheet tabs, which would have just replicated the problem.
