I have an Excel 2016 workbook linked through power query to an sql data source and some xlsx table. Sometime in the last few weeks i have done something that causes endless processing/reading and often the workbook completely freezes and i have to end the excel task.
Firstly what is the difference between "processing" and "reading data"?
When I add a new calculated column or measure to the PP window i expect to go back the workbook and see a message saying the model has changed. This is what happens, but it doesnt just process/read once but over and over unless i hit escape. Often it gets stuck processing/not responding.
Any clues as to what i might have done to cause this behaviour would be appreciated as made so many changes it's not obvious where to start unravelling.
Actually I just discovered if i delete a measure form the PP window the workbook immediately starts reading. I thought in 2016 it should only do this when you click back onto the worksheet. This was a big issue in 2013 when you were building the model.
Thanks
Mike
