Why do I have to press enter twice for cell to take data

This problem started suddenly last night. Every time I enter anything in excel, I have to press enter twice before the information is accepted in the cell. This only happens in excel and not in other MS suite programs. I tried enabling macros, shutting down and restarting both excel and the laptop, turned the option to move the cursor on entering to different directions and come back to down - nothing is working).

It is frustrating. Google search did not turn up any answers that worked for me.

I have been using excel for many years and had never encountered this issue.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Excel Facts

Formula for Yesterday
Name Manager, New Name. Yesterday =TODAY()-1. OK. Then, use =YESTERDAY in any cell. Tomorrow could be =TODAY()+1.
.
My guess is:

#1 recent Windows update is the cause.

#2 something you were running in Excel last night had some code that changed something in Excel for only the workbook you were running but did not change the setting back when closing that workbook.

I recently had a similar problem caused by a download I was trouble shooting for someone.
