Hi all, I briefly asked about this ages ago just for some general advice but I've now had the time to look for a solution but no luck.

So firstly I'm running on a Windows 11 Home User 64bit edition, with Office 365.

When using a Excel macro enabled workbook (WB) with Modules, Userform's etc as soon as I press F8 to step into some code, my computer immediately shuts down and a few moments later starts backup and takes me back to the same windows / programs that were open before I pressed F8.

My initial thought was it was some 'dodgy' code in my WB, so closed everything down, shut down and restarted my PC and then opened a completely new WB, added a few lines of very basic VBA, saved the WB and reopened it. But again as soon as I pressed F8 the PC shut down and restarted, I then tried on my Laptop again with 365 but Win 10 and it worked fine (both F8 & F11)

Next I removed Office 365 from the PC, shut down, restarted and installed a new version again the same thing happened when pressing F8 in that the PC shut down and restarted again. I also noted that when I pressed F11 to get to VBA, this did nothing, the only way to access VBA was to right click on a worksheet and select view code.

I'm now completely stuck on what could be causing the problem with Excel. All the other 365 apps work with absolutely no issues and even Excel does if I manually access the VBA window.

Just to note, I did recently replace my SSD hard drive to a new bigger one and also upgraded my ram from 32 to 64 but checked with HP tech support before buying that what I was planning to do is supported by my PC model, and I installed a new 'Clean version of Windows 11'. Logic tells me that the Excel problem is not related to the upgrades as literally everything else works perfectly including Excel generally.

Does anyone know of a solution or a known issue that could be causing this and more importantly how to solve it - could it be a keyboard issue perhaps.

Many thanks for any help offered.

Paul

Wow thank you for such an extensive reply Zero. Sadly no IT support option so I will run through the list and try each one of them but just in case will look at the ‘simple’ ones first. I’m ok removing the modules.

I’ve already installed a new version of office but I did note my email accounts were all in outlook as soon as I opened it again and usually I have to add them in apart for the default so I’m wondering if simply removing the office 365 app actually does remove everything.

Excel Facts

Workdays for a market open Mon, Wed, Friday?
Yes! Use "0101011" for the weekend argument in NETWORKDAYS.INTL or WORKDAY.INTL. The 7 digits start on Monday. 1 means it is a weekend.

With large programs like Office, you really want to restart the system after an uninstall if you haven't done that already.
As for the Outlook Credentials: Windows stores them in the Credential Manager > Windows Credentials.
As for the Outlook Accounts: They are accessible from the Control Panel > Mail applet > Show Profiles.
Neither of them are removed when uninstalling Office.
They can be removed manually if needed. Likely not necessary though.

Hi all just a quick update after running some of the tests and checks Zero & Logit suggested with everything coming back as ok, I thought I might as well just swap out my Logitech Keyboard for a standard HP wired one not thinking it could be that simple and it appears I have found the 'culprit'.

As soon as I pressed F11 the VBA window opened and as soon as I pressed F8 it started to step into the code so it appears it was this simple to 'fix'.

Just as a test I will plug in the Logitech keyboard into my laptop to see if the problem re-appears on that. if it does I will look at possible problems with the Logitech drivers and the USB dongle and let you know the outcome.

Ok so I finally know now 100% what was causing the issue. the Logitech 'Options +' app had been updated and this then automatically turned off the setting for all the standard function keys F1, F2 etc and of course F8 & F11.

The F8 key was defaulted to 'sleep' which is why my computer 'shutdown' as I thought it had when making this thread but it had in fact gone into sleep mode which explains why it opened back up in the same state.

The reason why the keyboard worked ok on my laptop is that I don't have the Options + app installed on that so it just recognised the key presses as standard ones.

I'm so grateful to all who took the time to reply especially Zero269 so thank you so much.

As a footnote my keyboard is a Logitech K800 but I think this 'issue' could happen on any supported Logitech keyboard if you have the Logitech Options + app installed so hopefully if my experience happens to anyone else using Logitech than at least there is a simple starting point to look at.

Once again thanks all for you help.
