I'm very new to the ipod world and even newer to podcasts. I have a 5G ipod and have successfully downloaded and watched a couple of podcasts on itunes.

I put the podcasts on the ipod, but i only get audio. apple is rubbish with its support. can you tell me if i've done something wrong?

thank you

Excel Facts

What is the shortcut key for Format Selection?
Ctrl+1 (the number one) will open the Format dialog for whatever is selected.
Right now, I am guessing that you follow these steps:
1) From the main menu, select Music
2) From the music menu, select Podcasts
3) Select Learn Excel from MrExcel Video Podcast
4) Select an episode
Result: the iPod plays Audio only.

Instead, hit the Menu button repeatedly until you get back to the main menu. You should have options for Music, Photos, Videos, Extras, Settings, Shuffle Songs, Now Playing. Scroll down to choose Videos. Then:
1) Select Video Podcasts
2) Select Learn Excel from MrExcel Video Podcast
3) Select an episode
Result: the iPod plays video and audio.

It seems crazy that the iPod would even offer video podcasts on the music podcast menu, unless playing just the audio offers better battery life.

Thanks for your interest in the podcast,

Bill Jelen

Hi Bill

Thank you for your reply. I think the problem is that my ipod isn't storing the podcasts in 'podcasts' - music or video.

I can only seem to play them when I go to videos -> video playlists -> recently added. Then I just get audio.

If you have any more suggestions, then that would be fantastic, otherwise, I'll just have to keep trying other stuff.

Are you sure that your ipod plays video? I thought the 5GB only did audio. The screen is for text only.

Sorry for confusion, I meant 5G as in '5th generation' in stead of '5GB'.

*how* did you transfer them to your ipod? Does your ipod menu have a video podcasts selection? are they even listed there? have you updated your ipod software?

My ipod has the menu in videos -> video podcasts, but they are not listed there. The only place I can find them is as mentioned above.

My ipod is only a couple of months old and I'm using itunes v6. It automatically updates the ipod when I plug it in.

Aaaaaaahhhhhhhh!

When you plug your ipod into your pc and go to itunes, the ipod will show up in the itunes list.
Under what heading are the podcasts showing up under your ipod?
For example, my ipod is called "Tracy's iPod" and under that, i have heading "Podcasts" under which all my podcasts are shown

I've not got that.
My options are only 'recently played','90's music','recently added' and a couple of others. (Doing this from memory - itunes is at home).

Sounds like we're heading somewhere. How did you get the podcast heading under your ipod? Thanks for all your help on this.

I just dragged my podcasts to my ipod.. the heading created itself.
my music is directly under my ipod... then there's my podcasts
my *entire* itunes menu goes
Library
Podcasts
Videos
Party Shuffle
Radio
Music Store
Tracy's ipod (when it's plugged in)
90s music
my top rate
recently added
recently played
top 25 most played

how did you get your podcasts onto your ipod?
