I have been having this problem for a while and whilst I don't know if it causes and actual problem, some workbooks are slow to insert columns, worksheets, etc.

In the screen shot below, I have one workbook open but in the VBE Project Pane, it is showing workbooks that I have had open since I last fully closed and reopen Excel

The only way I can clear the Projects Pane is to close Excel completely but it seems strange that I have to do that.

Has anyone else experieced this and if so, is it something I need to worry about?

TIA

Can a formula spear through sheets?
Use =SUM(January:December!E7) to sum E7 on all of the sheets from January through December
Never seen it, unless the other file was an actual Reference (under Tools>References). In that case it becomes part of the open project but would not disappear upon closing and opening Excel. The only other thing I can think of is that they are not properly closing. Next time you see it, go to Task Manager (ctrl+shift+esc) and look for those wb in the lists. Check apps and background processes list. If you see them in the processes list, delete them and go back to the open wb and see if they're still there. If they are, try closing and opening the editor, not Excel itself. I believe if you delete from the apps list you'll close Excel, but not sure because the only thing I ever see multiples of in that list is for FireFox, and I've closed FF just by picking one from the list and deleting it, which is not what I wanted.

Do those other Workbooks open when you start a New Blank Workbook?
No, I would have the physically open them to 'open' them.

I can have 10 workbooks open, close 9 of them and all 10 will show as being open in the VBE. It doesn't happen all the time but happens enough for me to realise it has happened.
