updatelinks function doesn't work correctly

while it was always working, at some day it didn't anymore. using the updatelinks function in a macro, with that other file open at the same or a different pc, the macro that only uses the Worksheetfunction Updatelinks with a correct reference to the file but still vba crashes/gives an error.

somewhere i read that it might be caused because the file is open, but it always did work correctly.

when i press update..the normal excel functionality window (or how do you call it?) to open an excel file opens (the window in which you can browse your pc to open an excel file that exists)..like it doesn't know where the file is whichi needs to update

Use =SUM(January:December!E7) to sum E7 on all of the sheets from January through December
yes i'm sure it exists..but it might have something to do with the network then..it is on a network drive..maybe that is causing the problem

but having a file open or not shouldn't make a difference to updatelink right?

In my case, it was a mistake in the cell containing the link formula. The formula was previously correct, but for some unknown reason it was amended. After I changed it back to the previous formula, all worked fine again.
