Hi there,

I have an excel file that i have been using for the past couple of months.
However when i went to open the file today it would not open.

When I go to open it it says that it is downloading it but the spreadsheet does not open.

Is there anything I can do??

Any help would be greatly appreciated as I need to get access to the contents of the spreadsheet

Excel Facts

Select a hidden cell
Somehide hide payroll data in column G? Press F5. Type G1. Enter. Look in formula bar while you arrow down through G.
Some pointers from Jan Karl Pieterse
Options to try and open a corrupt file

- Set calculation to manual
- open the file, but disable macros (assuming you've set
macro security to medium: Tools, Macro, security)
- As soon as you've clicked the disable macros button,
press control-pageup or control-pagedown, thus changing
sheets.

If that does not work, try creating a link to the file:

='c:\my documents\[MyFileName.xls]Sheet1'!A1

and copy right and down. This at least gets you the
worksheets values.

if you don't know the sheet names, enter this:

='C:\PathToFile\[MyFileName.xls]'!A1

and press enter

If XL (2000) is able to extract them, it will prompt you
for a sheet name.

Sometimes the Excel viewer, Word or even Internet explorer
(v5) enables you to open the file and copy information out
of it.

If the file is not protected, maybe you can open it with
OpenOffice (www.Openoffice.org).

Also, Excel XP can sometimes repair XL files with trouble.

Hi,

Couple of thoughts....

When you have excel open, hit the Office Button>> Excel Options>>Advanced scroll down right to the bottom and remove the check if it is there in "Ignore other applications that use Dynamic Data Exchange"

Realise you have probably done this but hit the View tab and Unhide Sheets, prob greyed out if your file isn't open - sorry for this suggestion it is not meant to offend:)

Final one is open a blank excel sheet, hit the office button>> Excel Options then Add-ins from the menu on the left. At the bottom of the screen ensure under the Mange drop down says add-ins and hot Go. Enable the Lookup wizard and hot OK.

In some cases, Excel might say that the add-on is not installed and ask if you want to install it. Select Yes and let it run through the installation. When it is finished, you will not get a confirmation, but the installation window will be gone.

Then try and open your doc......whilst crossing your fingers.:eeek:

Good Luck
Ian
