hi,
i have a table which contains the lot #.
another table contains components that were used to make the various lots.
for example, lot # 1000 and lot #2000 make up is as follows:

components 10, 20, 30 were used to make lot# 1000
components 10, 30 were used to make lot #2000

as you can see, component 10 and 30 are shared by both lots. if i were to look up this info in access, how should i set up my tables?

Excel Facts

Format cells as time
Select range and press Ctrl+Shift+2 to format cells as time. (Shift 2 is the @ sign).
This requires a many-to-many relationship set up. If you do a search on this forum for 'many to many relationship' or 'many-to-many relationship' you will find this has been discussed quite a few times. But briefly, your first table should contain the component details (e.g. component number, description, etc) and the second table should be the 'lots' (e.g. lot#, other lot details) and the thrid table would be the construction of the 'lots' (e.g. unique id, lot#, component number & quantity). There is also a useful article from Microsoft Help here. Have a read of the posts & MS article, and experiment with the set-up I suggested. Let us know how you get on.
