Status Bar doesn't show data if one cell is selected

Dear Guys,

It might be a silly question but.. why Excel doesn't show any data on the status bar at the bottom right (Average, Min, Max, Sum etc.) if only one cell is selected?
I googled for it but didn't find any solution. I know I can simulate status bar in VBA (like on this link) but I want to use Excel's built in feature.

Excel Facts

Format cells as date
Select range and press Ctrl+Shift+3 to format cells as date. (Shift 3 is the # sign which sort of looks like a small calendar).
It's not about merged cells. E.g. if I select an entire row/column or a range and it contains only one non empty cell that status bar remains empty. That's the case if that non-empty cell is merged.
