I have a Pivot Table that by default lists months with January and February listed before November. I have searched thoroughly, both online and within Excel, but have not found how I can sort so that Nov 2022 and Dec 2022 precede January 2023. The time field that the Pivot Table is pulling from includes year, month, day, hour, minutes, and seconds.

For example, selecting "Field Settings" --> "Number Format" --> "Date" --> Mar-12 (thereby specifying month and year) does not work.

Existing and desired tables are shown below. Any help is greatly appreciated.

What does custom number format of ;;; mean?
Three semi-colons will hide the value in the cell. Although most people use white font instead.
Can you show us the underlying date field preferably as an XL2BB if it is an image have one of the cells selected and show the formula bar in the image as well.
Also can you show us the pivot table navigation pane on the right ?

If you right click on say Nov in the heading of the pivot is the item Group available and if so does it show Months Years etc ?
Are you ok with having and extra heading for the year ?

Solution
Thank you. Yes - right clicking on, e.g., Nov reveals Year, Quarters, Months, etc. Yes, it would fine to have an extra heading - I know that that is what I need.

Of course - right click and group by both Year and Month.

I appreciate your help.
