Losing my mind...I have done this so many times...failing now I am...

Two columns I would like to compare. Green if less. Red if more.

Trying:

Conditional Formatting, Use Formula (Highlighting all the cells in column E before I begin the process)
Formula:
=$E2>$D2 (and applying the format I would like to see if this is true)

Nothing...

If E2 is > than D2, Red. If E2 is < D2, Green.

No matter how many ways I enter it...no luck (=$E$2>$D$2, Format)...tried just those two cells...a range...etc etc...where is my error?

Excel Facts

What is the last column in Excel?
Excel columns run from A to Z, AA to AZ, AAA to XFD. The last column is XFD.
This is assuming the information is in columns A and B instead.

Conditional Formatting, new rule, use a formula...

=A1=MAX($A1,$B1) -- then select Green fill

Conditional Formatting, new rule, use a formula...

=A1=MIN($A1,$B1) -- then select Red fill

This is turning all of the selected range green even though the numbers are equal right now?

When applying that formula, you need to ensure that cell E2 is the active cell. If you have highlighted the whole column, E1 will be the active cell. Is that the issue?

I am only highlighting the cells in which I wish to use that formula. However, even when I try it with only E2, it still does not work. =(

Appreciate your help.

Sorry but it works fine for me, the below was produced with the range E2:E14 selected (E2 being the active cell) when typing in and applying the formula =$E2>$D2 and $E2<$D2 .

Perhaps you have a mixture of text and numbers?

If it isn't working with row 2, what do these formulas return if you put them in vacant cells?
=ISNUMBER(D2)
=ISNUMBER(E2)
