@ sign troubles

It's a minor problem but there's a space that I want to remove. For example:

[Y2]
@ 7.42

When I tell find and replace the space, it finds it and when I tell it to replace it with "", it tells me that the formula that I typed contains an error and stops me from replacing it. It's odd. Does any1 know how this can be fixed?

Excel Facts

Format cells as currency
Select range and press Ctrl+Shift+4 to format cells as currency. (Shift 4 is the $ sign).
try replaceing "@ " (don't type the quotes)

with '@ (type the single quote) The single quote shouldn't show up on the sheet.

I am thinking your data was imported from a csv or something because I can't type "@ 7.42" without that error. the @ symbol must be reserved as formula begining.

Hi Jay Lee:

Edit|Find|Replace does take out the extra space after @

see my worksheet simulation
y021007.xls
YZAAAB
1
2@7.42@7.42
3
4BeforeEdit|Find|ReplaceAfterEdit|Find|Replace
5
Sheet11
</SPAN>

Make sure that when Find|Replace Dialog Box opens up -- in the Find Box, there must be 1 and only 1 space character (one press of the space bar);

and nothing in the Replace_with box, then click on the Replace Button, then Close.

Regards!

@ is used in Lotus 123 to indicate a formula... Excel is interpreting it as such here.
