Sharing Excel Sheet with UK - Currency

I am working with a person from the UK. He sent me a spreadsheet he originally created in the UK. We have a column of US dollars. He has formatted those as US Dollars. When I go to a new part of the spreadsheet, enter numeric values, then click the accounting format - excel formats it to the pound symbol (his UK system default). The value does not change.

If I create a new worksheet (in the US), enter a numeric value, click the accounting format - excel formats as US Dollars (my system default). The issue only occurs on the spreadsheet originating from the UK. I don't believe there is "Default currency" option in excel, but my system default is US, so I am confused. We are on an office 365 account out of the UK, but I have no issue on my local machine. The document being shared resides on my local machine.

Excel Facts

Round to nearest half hour?
Use =MROUND(A2,"0:30") to round to nearest half hour. Use =CEILING(A2,"0:30") to round to next half hour.
Default Currency option is regional. If you want to standardize the currency format, I think both person need to format the cell to reflect either USD or Pound.

or you could add new column beside to indicate currency alphabetically (USD,SGD etc)
