Selling a VBA program

I have a question that isn’t directly associated with excel, but maybe somebody has experience with this and can give me some guidance. Question; what if I come up with a vba program attached to my excel workbook/worksheet, and I believe it might have some commercial value. The vba program performs some kind of function, that somebody in a commercial sector would pay money to own. So my other questions are;

  • I would like to sell this program to people who do not have access to an excel spreadsheet.
  • I would like to have a stand-alone software that does the same thing the excel vba program.
  • Is there a web site that would translate a vba program into a stand-alone program?
And lastly, does python, C++ or java give me a clue to my question? Thank you for your time.

great, I’m just looking for a tool for migrating vb6. I've heard good reviews about this, but I'll try to say it

Excel Facts

Did you know Excel offers Filter by Selection?
Add the AutoFilter icon to the Quick Access Toolbar. Select a cell containing Apple, click AutoFilter, and you will get all rows with Apple

Wow, I wrote that over two years ago. TwinBasic has come lightyears since then. I would still strongly recommend it.

While twinBASIC simplifies VB6 migration and supports 64-bit and Azure integration, its current reliance on replacing 32-bit ActiveX components complicates transitions. Cross-platform support is still forthcoming, making it less versatile than mature alternatives. Its IDE experience is solid, but minor glitches during migration and limited ecosystem tools hinder broader adoption.

I don't see how this complicates transitions. It would seem to me to facilitate the transition, especially if the goal is 100% backwards compatibilty. I would point out that it is still in beta, and that there was a new release a few days ago.

I'm not quite sure what this means. twinBASIC can use ActiveXs but doesn't need to.
Migrating a VB6 project to the twinBASIC programming language typically means you get (to start with at least) a 32 bit twinBASIC application that has similar requirements to the VB6 app. So if the VB6 app. uses an ActiveX then the tB app. will also. This is what 'backwards compatibility' means. Note that you can often have a migrated VB6 app. running in twinBASIC within a few minutes.

If you then decide to upgrade to 64 bit the (32 bit) ActiveX will need to be handled by one of the following:-
  • Is there a 64 bit version of the ActiveX you can use?
  • Do you have the source code of the ActiveX so you can migrate this to twinBASIC and recompile as 64 bit?
  • Can you find an alternative (64 bit) ActiveX that is similar?
  • Can you develop your own alternative in twinBASIC?
  • Wait until twinBASIC has support for 32bit ActiveXs in 64 bit compilations (due later this year).
