Does anyone have a simple excel tool to calculate schedule performance based on the number of days in a project, hours estimated and actual hours to date to show if a project is tracking to schedule, ahead or behind?

Hi StringJazzer,

I was referring to your example which you have provided on the link above. How is the billed hours formula derived as =ROUND(H2*(0.8+0.4*RAND()),0)

Can you help me understand please?

Thanks,
Mahesh
Just some random numbers to come up with some fake data for demonstration purposes. Nothing at all to do with a solution.

Why can't spreadsheets drive cars? They crash too often!

Ok ...got it. I agree with your perspective (& this is the actual way to look at it) when you say that Schedule variance is the difference between what work was planned by what date/days & how much work has been done relative to that date/days....My point is if a cost is not associated with the work being done...say for example just a tracker to track some action points, then could the schedule be derived as the one you mentioned above. It would be great to if you can help with an example xlbb file giving both scenarios...one which has cost element attached & other without cost.

Thanks,
Mahesh

Yeah, I guess that would be great ;) I am afraid I don't have time to create such an A vs. B example from scratch for a free discussion board. I'd be happy to comment on or enhance an existing solution, or give specific advice, but what you're asking for could take hours.

That is getting quite far afield of the original question, which was posted by someone else. I would suggest you post a new thread to ask for this, to get a broader audience and something specific to your needs.
