RIGHT Calculations

I have a spread sheet with VIN for vehicles, another spot for just the last 4. Entire VIN in Z3, last 4 I want in C3, I placed formula =RIGHT(Z3,4) in C3, when I click on this in the text bar, it does highlight Z3, but the it only shows the formula, not the last 4 of the formula, I am using excel 2010. Any thoughts on what I am doing wrong.

What you're calling the "text bar" is actually called the "Formula Bar"
It shows the Formula in the cell.
If the cell does not contain a formula, then it shows the text value of the cell.

You can "Convert" the formula into it's result by copying the cell with the formula, then right click - paste special - values

Have you got formula display on? It toggles with Ctrl+`

Perhaps you have show formulas clicked... Hold control and click the tilda (key to the left of the 1) to turn this off or go to formulas ribbon and click show formulas.
