Restrict size of entry to a column of cells

I have a series of columns which I want to restrict the size of the values entered into each column.

for example col A. 10 characters, col B 5 characters

Can this be formatted ?

Select the range of cells you want to restrict and then

click Data!Validation! in the menu and choose in the Allow box "Textlength" and in the Data box choose "Lessthan" and in the Maximum box enter 10 and then click OK.

This will restrict your range with lessthan 10 character.
