Removing the first character

Is there a way to remove the first character of the cell contents? i.e. If the cell contains L1, it would give you only the 1, or if it contains E4.0 it would give you the 4.0?

Would MID accomplish this?

That's the same formula as mike's in Post #2 , but yours doesn't convert the result to a number and remains as Text.

The op didn't actually ask for converting to a number. L1 would be come 1 and E4.0 would return 4.0. To return that exact formatting in both cases would require the result to be returned as text.
