I am trying to create a spreadsheet relevnt to building a home.
The difficulty is with the following function:
Various trades work on the project, each has an hourly pay rate,. So I have a short list of codes for teh type of trade. e.g. Joiner, painter, plumber etc.
So in my sheet it shows that a plumber will take .3 hours to fit a radiator. I theerfore want column A to contain 'plumber' B to contain hours to work, C to be a result cost. To get the cost I need it to look at column A see that it is 'plumber' and relate that to a rate set for plumbing.

Thanks

Excel Facts

Workdays for a market open Mon, Wed, Friday?
Yes! Use "0101011" for the weekend argument in NETWORKDAYS.INTL or WORKDAY.INTL. The 7 digits start on Monday. 1 means it is a weekend.
It should, but it's a direct quote. He was good with computers but not so good with English, perhaps! :)

Hi, I'm back with a another question....
All the quanaties were for one building, should be for two. So, how do I select the existing values and double them in a one off action?

Thanks

Find an unused cell somewhere in your worksheet. (It can be anywhere - you'll be deleting it later.) Type a 2 into this temporary cell, then right-click and Copy.

Now highlight the cells you want to multiply by 2, then right-click and Paste Special... In the dialog box, select Multiply and click OK.

Finally go back and remove the 2 you typed in the temporary cell.
