Problem with autotext

Not strictly an excel problem but rather a word problem. However it all ties in with documents i am trying to print via VB code in Excel.

I am using Office 97, and in Word, when i click on View Header & Footer, the 'autotext' option is greyed out. I cannot find any reasons for this

If i try and insert one the fields e.g. filename in the footer it simply displays 'filename on the printed output. I have tried using { } around it, and &before it but to no effect.

Is there something i am doing wrong, or do i need to reinstall the program

If the file isnt read only then it should be available. Maybe this will help http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=180023
