Pivot Chart created in Excel XP doesn't work in Excel 97?

Using Excel XP, I've created a Workbook that contains many charts that are linked to Pivot Table data within the same Workbook(Pivot Charts). About half of the end-users of this Workbook will be using Excel 97. When I open the Workbook in 97, the Pivot Charts don't update when the Pivot Tables are refreshed... the charts are no longer linked to the Pivot Table Source Data. Does anyone have an idea why this is happening? It appears that Excel 97 should support Pivot Tables. Thanks!

Excel Facts

Will the fill handle fill 1, 2, 3?
Yes! Type 1 in a cell. Hold down Ctrl while you drag the fill handle.
PivotCharts were 1st introduced in XL2000. Excel 97 doesn't support them. Consult the "What's new with data analysis in PivotTable reports?" Help topic in XL2000.

I'm using Excel XP to create my Workbook. It will ultimately be used by people using multiple versions of Excel. I need to chart data from the Pivot Tables because I need the charts to automatically update. Is there a way to make a regular chart (non-Pivot Chart) from the Pivot Table data in Excel XP? I've checked the Help, but can find nothing regarding this. Thanks!

Unfortunately, there isn't anyway that I know of.

If found this method on Jon Peltier's Excel pages. It worked for me in Excel XP... the only thing not mentioned is that I had to Enable Selection in my Pivot Table before doing step 4.

Create a Normal Chart from a Pivot Table.
To create a normal (non-pivot) chart from a Pivot Table:

1) Select an empty cell away from the Pivot Table.
2) Click the Chart Wizard button on the toolbar.
3) Click Finish, to create an empty chart.
4) Select cells in the Pivot Table, and drag or copy them to the blank chart.

Note: If you select a cell which contains a Pivot Table button, the chart will become a Pivot Chart. To avoid this, you can build the chart from the data and either the series or category axis labels. Then choose Chart>Source Data. On the Series tab, select a series. Click on a worksheet cell to add the series name or Category axis label.

...but, your chart is no longer dynamically linked to your PivotTable. Changes in the dimensions or layout of your PivotTable aren't reflected in the chart.

That's true Mark... In this particular case, my Pivot Table will only change in it's number of rows. I only need to chart the first 20 rows of data. So my only problem, is when there are fewer than 20 rows (there sometimes will be) my chart will be too big.
