Microsoft Paint and Microsoft Photoeditor and other run of the mill graphics programs can be made to do quite a bit of "Magic" And don't forget that Excel has a magic transparent color function if you paste your photo in as a bitmap. Very handy!
I've got a copy of photoshop and it is complicated.
My avitar up there in the corner? I did it with good old Microsoft photoeditor and nothing else from a self portrait I took in the bathroom mirror. So give it a whirl & keep on clicking those buttons (-:
