I don't know if I'm completely missing it here... but I have a challenge to try to match the colors of the bars in a standard bar chart to a specific pantone (PMS) color.

Anyone ever had to do this before? If yes, how did/do you tackle this?

When did Power Query debut in Excel?
Although it was an add-in in Excel 2010 & Excel 2013, Power Query became a part of Excel in 2016, in Data, Get & Transform Data.
A search here for "Pantone" didn't turn up much and nothing like what you describe. You'll need to know the RGB or HSL scale values of the Pantone colors in order to pull it off.

You should know that Excel only handles 56 colors in its pallet -- end of story. Now, you can alter those colors in the pallet, but at the end of the day, you've got 56 spots on the pallet, period.

You normally alter the pallet's colors using VBA and the RBG function if you need to do this many times. If you only need to do this one time, you can alter the pallet by hand using Tools | Options | Color (tab) | Custom (tab) and picking the RGB interface or the HSL system to adjust the color.
