Opening Excel file via IE changes vlookup formulae.

Opening my Excel sheet on a network through Internet Explorer changes the address in my vlookup formula from 'T:folder/excelfile.xls' to //OE4000/folder/.excelfile.xls. So when you try to update links, it looks for a file in the latter address instead of the T:drive. Both addresses are the same location but the update links process won't find the file looking for the internet address. I've instructed people not to use IE links, but is there a way to open an IE link without the address changing? Thanks in advance.
