Let's say I have a succession of numbers in a group of adjacent cells such that one number appears in each cell: for example, 2,4,6,8,10.

In a typical mouse scenario, I would wish to continue this pattern by dragging the cursor to the right from the bottom right-hand corner of the final filled cell (the one that has 10).

In order to stretch the pattern without using a mouse, I need to locate a keyboard shortcut. Unfortunately, when I press ctrl+R, it simply replicates the first value—2, into the other cells. Any thoughts?

Excel Facts

Quick Sum
Select a range of cells. The total appears in bottom right of Excel screen. Right-click total to add Max, Min, Count, Average.
Select the whole range
press ALT + H + F + I + S one at a time
then ALT+F Together
then press Enter

Dont know any shorter route without VBA
