If I need to find the number of upper cased letters in a string, do I have to use a loop or there is quicker ways?

Thanks.

Biff....Why do you hate regular formulas so much! :)

Code:
=COUNT(INDEX(FIND(MID(A1,ROW(INDIRECT("1:"&LEN(A1))),1)
,"ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZ"),0))

Excel Facts

Copy formula down without changing references
If you have =SUM(F2:F49) in F50; type Alt+' in F51 to copy =SUM(F2:F49) to F51, leaving the formula in edit mode. Change SUM to COUNT.
Hi Marcelo

... and one that accepts letters with diacritics:

=SUMPRODUCT(0+EXACT(MID(A2,ROW(INDIRECT("1:"&LEN(A2))),1),UPPER(MID(A2,ROW(INDIRECT("1:"&LEN(A2))),1))))

Another regular formula option:
Code:
B1: =INDEX(FREQUENCY(CODE(MID(A1,ROW(INDIRECT("1:"&LEN(A1))),1)&"1"),{64,91}),2)

Hey, how do you know to write POLUIÇÂO? :)

Careful, PGC01
=SUMPRODUCT(0+EXACT(MID(A2,ROW(INDIRECT("1:"&LEN(A2))),1),UPPER(MID(A2,ROW(INDIRECT("1:"&LEN(A2))),1))))
gets tripped up by spaces and any non-letter characters:

Example:
For this string: a,b!,@ d#e&,;Z

The formula returns: 10

This uses Named Formulas

Select a cell in row 1 and define

Name: oneToN RefersTo:=ROW(INDEX(Sheet1!$A:$A,1,1):INDEX(Sheet1!$A:$A,LEN(Sheet1!$A2),1))

Name:Characters RefersTo: =MID(Sheet1!$A1, oneToN, 1)

Then putting
=SUMPRODUCT((65<=CODE(Characters))*(CODE(Characters)<=90))
in B2 will return 3 when A2 contains "AbCdE123"
