Nested if in Query

I am trying to place a nested if in a query for a calculated answer..

Sample single table query;
if field1 <>a then field2*field3 else 0;

Hmm tried if,then,else, that does not work and if (xxx,xx,) that does
not work ... any clues, band syntax

In a Query you have to use an Imediate If
IIF([field1]<>"a",[field2]*[field3],0)
