MS Word 2003 - Page Break & Table Issue

Hello
I have Word 2010 installed on my machine but must save documents as a 97-2003 file (.doc) due to user compatibility. The issue below does not present itself when saving the file as a .docx (2010 file) however.

The problem I have is I have a table which I want to remain at the top of a page, so I have inserted a page break to keep it there. When I save the file as a .doc, Word adds a blank line to the page with the table immediately before the table, so the table starts on the 2nd line on the page and not the first. If I delete the the first line on the page, the page break is removed and the table "jumps" back up to the previous page. I can type in to this blank line no problem, but it won't allow the table to be there. If I remove the break and manually press enter a few times to shift the table down, I can get the table to start on the first line of the next page however.

As above, if I save the file as a .docx and have insterted a page break before the table, the table remains at the top of the next page - there's no blank line.

Does anyone know how I can get round this weird formatting bug whilst still using page breaks and .doc format?

Thanks.

Excel Facts

Copy formula down without changing references
If you have =SUM(F2:F49) in F50; type Alt+' in F51 to copy =SUM(F2:F49) to F51, leaving the formula in edit mode. Change SUM to COUNT.
Essentially, what's happening is that, when you create a table in Word 2007 & later, but then save the document in the doc format, the paragraph break that Word inserts after a manual page break before a table appears on the same page as the table, exactly as it does for documents created in Word 2003 & earlier. Whilst you can't prevent that, you can minimise/negate its effects by formatting that paragraph as hidden.
