I have a friend of mine who tells me that when he was working in the US a few years ago there was not too much demand for MS Excel and MS Access. Where there was some demand, the salary levels weren't too high.

Can anyone in the US confirm this?

I actually worked for a very large healthcare provider myself, and certain lines of business use Excel and Access extensively, while other lines are still using MainFrame (and anything Windows based is completely foreign to them).

To answer the bigger question I think you are getting at, yes, there are plenty of opportunities to use Excel and Access here in the US. Just be aware that not every place uses it, and you may also be expected to know a little bit more than just Excel and Access, whether it be some other type of common programming language (i.e. SQL) or something specific to the software they use. The good news is that many companies may be willing to train you on those if you show you have a good base knowledge and/or experience in these sort of things.

How to show all formulas in Excel?
Press Ctrl+` to show all formulas. Press it again to toggle back to numbers. The grave accent is often under the tilde on US keyboards.
Does the healthcare industry use these products as I have spent quite a lot of time in healthcare where I have used Access and Excel especially using automation techniques?

I work for a large health insurance company, and we use excel and access extensively.
