Is there any free alternative to the ribbon?

If I were to install a menu bar instead of a ribbon...
Is there any chance that the next version of Office will go back to menu bars instead of a ribbon?

Is there a way to leave feedback to someone at Microsoft that the ribbon is not helpful and more of a burden?

Thank You,
Michael

Excel Facts

Control Word Wrap
Press Alt+Enter to move to a new row in a cell. Lets you control where the words wrap.
Admittedly the learning curve is steep with this new version. However, after having used it about 1 year, I can tell you I'd never go back.

Believe me, the MVP group was very vocal about it, although they're not going to get rid of it, but are trying to make it more user friendly.

Note that Bill Gates was against it, but product growth/development and targeting new users won out in the end.

Wow! that is hard for me to believe they thought it to be easier.

I think the idea is great! If it functioned as... only the possible things you want/can to do at that moment, would pop up in the ribbon, this would be fantastic. But you still have to click on a tab, and find what you want... which is no different than a menu tab.

All other Windows programs still have menus!?!

I hate that they changed the keyboard shortcuts as well. I have been doing them for many, many years.
Example: I used Alt-F-V to print preview FOREVER. No I have to Crtl-F2... Much more of a pain.

Thank You for your responses,
Michael
ps. If an administrator wants to move this to the Lounge, I am good with that;)

Actually, the standard Office Professional Programs use the Ribbon (Word, Excel, Power Point & Access). InfoPath, Outlook, OneNote, Visio, Accounting, etc., still use the standard toolbars.

I'm not real fond of the additional step you have to take with the keyboard shortcuts either, and I haven't gotten the hang of the new ones. Part of my problem is that we use 2003 at work and have no plans for upgrading, so everything I do is centered around that interface and I only dabble with '07.

ps. If an administrator wants to move this to the Lounge, I am good with that:wink:

I'll move this to the General Excel Discussion forum. ;)

Alt-F-W-V but I'll use Ctrl+F2 from now on

There isn't a huge amount of tampering with the shortcuts from what I've found, I like the ribbon. It takes getting used to but once you get to grips it's actually much easier as there is much more immediately visible and in reality the ribbon is just a more visual extension of the dropdown menu.

Of course it is just a matter of opinion
