After the latest O365 update, the formula bar looks mangled to the point of being unusable. The attached picture shows a sample formula from one of my spreadsheets. The upper formula is as Excel shows it. The lower is that same formula copy/pasted into Kate (a programmer's editor).

This seems to "take effect" after the file has been open for a while, and becomes readable again if the file is closed and reopened. That's an annoying workaround, as this is a huge spreadsheet (a bit under 50meg) and lives on a network share drive.

Any ideas how to fix this? For instance, is there a way to set the font used in the formula bar? Setting it to a non-kerned font like Courier New could have a salutory effect, but I've not seen how to set this. or is there a known "fix" action...?

Whats the difference between CONCAT and CONCATENATE?
The newer CONCAT function can reference a range of cells. =CONCATENATE(A1,A2,A3,A4,A5) becomes =CONCAT(A1:A5)
Never seen anything like that, but in file, options, Formulas, try unchecking the "use monospace font for all formulas" & see if that helps.

Unfortunately, it appears that Microsoft, in it's infinite wisdom, removed that...

They haven't removed it, you just don't have it yet. So I have no idea what the problem is.

You can activate the function "Use Monospace Font for all Formulas", by choosing "File" and then "Account", and in that menu, you choose "Update options" and then "Update now".
That should give you the missing Line in "Settings".

Solution
That doesn’t look monospaced to me, and the fact it’s erratic means it probably isn’t related to that setting. What version and build of office is it?

@RoryA, I don't know what it was, I already did the update that @ebea described before I saw your message. It's now 2402 (Build 17328.20670).

That update did not bring in the option discussed, but it DID clear the problem. Everything seems normal again (for now)

Interesting. I saw another report of this on the MS Answers forum earlier (Here) but that was version 2408, which I think is when the new default themes/fonts were added.
