An Excel 2003 question:

I am revising a couple of spreadsheets for a client. And one thing is driving me batty. When either of the files is opened, certain VBA macros appear in the tools menu.

I cannot find a macro sheet with any macro that accesses any toolbars. There does not seem to be an auto_open macro in either file, or any macros associated with any Excel objects.

What might I have overlooked? The good news is that the behavior is only annoying, not dangerous.

Try just removing all the data - that shouldn't affect any code that might be in there.

Is there any chance this was created with Excel 5/95?

Edit: answered my own question - yes it was. The menu editor in that version was totally different. To remove the menu items, download the Removemenu add-in from here. Note the workbook needs to be closed when you run the add-in.

Thanks a million: that did it.

I learn something new about Excel every day, it seems. (And not all of it is inspiring.)

Could be worse - you could be trying to customise the Ribbon in 2007! ;)

How did we get on with this. I have a workbook with that had a module added and an sub Auto_Open & Auto_Close routines. I deleted the module and put in a Private Sub Workbook_Open() routine into the ThisWorkBook page. The normal and expected enable macro dialog box appears followed by an Excel 4 warning

Really want to get rid of the Excel 4 warning.

Do you have any old XLM code in there or any defined names that use XLM functions like GET.CELL?

That's it - its gone. Was a get.cell function I'd forgotton about and copied across into a new workbook.
