I have a macro enabled spreadsheet that I have never had problems with opening before. I use this spreadsheet daily but the last time I saved and closed it 11/1/24 Friday evening at 5:29pm was the last time I was able to open the spreadsheet. Now it will only open in safe mode and pops a message that "Excel has detected that you have recovered files. These files will be opened the next time you start Excel in normal mode" so I click OK but then Excel shuts down. When I open another macro enabled spreadsheet (or any other) NOT IN SAFE MODE it then lists all the recovered files (about 20 of them for the one spreadsheet I am having issues with) but when I select one to open Excel just shuts down. Unfortunately I have no back up for his file and really need to get it back. Any suggestions?

Start Excel like you're going to create a new Workbook. Click on Open. Select your file. Before you click Open, check to see if it contains a drop-down menu. If so, drop down and click Open and Repair.

I should have mentioned that I tried that and many other things to no avail. I was able to get the data I needed by from a teammate who had made a copy last week and was able to recreate the code and formulas and so far so good. Thanks for the follow up.

I apologize for not updating the resolution but somehow I was able to save a copy of the most critical sheet then recreate the rest.
