Hello,

I'm trying to establish active links from an MS project document to an excel spreadsheet. Through copying and pasting specials I'm managing dumb values and Hyperlinks to the document, neither of which are what I'm after?

Does anyone know how to create the links I'm after? the excel document needs to display the values in the project and update as the project document changes.

I know this seems like an easy question but it's not as easy as it seems!

Excel Facts

Select a hidden cell
Somehide hide payroll data in column G? Press F5. Type G1. Enter. Look in formula bar while you arrow down through G.
You should stick to one thread you have already asked this question.

When you use Paste Special look to use the link, but select the Text method this will give you the values in the cells

As long as you have only selected the cells in the project in excel it will display on the formula bar something like this

{=MSProject.Project.9|Project1!'!LINK_3'}

I don't know of a way to link an Excel workbook into Project.
A couple of options that you could consider:
Export from Project to Excel when you save the file -- you can create a VBA routine to do the job. The only decent VBA resource I know of is a book by Rod Gill.

Save the project as an Access database. It will take a while to work out what all the tables are and how they link, but you can then use the External Data feature in Excel to refresh the workbook whenever you want.
