According to math rules 2^3^2 should equal 2^9 (you go right to left in this case). Excel gives 64. Is this a known bug?

I wasn't kidding I've never heard of BODMAS.

Or BEDMAS, BIDMAS, BERDMAS, PERDMAS BPODMAS, PEMDAS...:)

Trunten, just to say BODMAS isn't the only acronym and so it's not that surprising that not everyone has heard of it. For instance I know of
PEDMAS,BEDMAS, BIDMAS, BERDMAS, PERDMAS, and BPODMAS.

And I live in the UK as well and I learnt PEDMAS (for Parentheses, Exponents, Multiplication, Division, Addition, Subtraction)

Sorry Norie , I must have been typing at the same time

Yeah, I suddenly thought of that after my not so witty retort. Sorry.

I think I still prefer bodmas

FWIW, there is clearly a bug in Excel, which they are not going to fix. Excel thinks that 1900 is a leap year. According to Wikipedia, that this is to keep it compatible with Lotus 1-2-3. (In the Gregorian calendar century years not divisible by 400, e.g., 1700, 1800, 1900 but not 2000, are common years, not leap years.)
