Is there any difference between a VBA Program and Macro?

Excel Facts

Create a chart in one keystroke
Select the data and press Alt+F1 to insert a default chart. You can change the default chart to any chart type
Hover the mouse pointer over the icon next to "Ready" on the task bar.
What text is displayed?
"No macros are currently recording. Click to begin recording a new macro."
Those recorded macros will be written in VBA.
Any questions?

A macro is a set of instructions using VBA.....
So a macro might consist of 1 line of VBA or thousands of lines !!

The author explains, in the article,

"Macros were used with the older versions of office applications and they could only be used for automating instructions."
and
"...
VBA later in 1993 replaced this Macro Language, and hence there is still a misconception among people to call VBA as macro language."

So the author's view is that only the early programming approach should be called macros. And this was superseded by VBA many years ago. OK?

As Michael has stated a macro is a generic term for a set of instructions, VBA is a programming language (as Ron has inferred).
