I've looked through help and done a bit of a web search and can't find out if there is a keyboard shortcut for merging cells in excel?

A little help, anyone? Thanks!

If the cells are of the same size you can always use the format tool.

Highlight the amount of cells you wish to merge and then after merging them like normal select the merged selection and double click the format icon and then you can merge similar sizes of cells.

Excel Facts

VLOOKUP to Left?
Use =VLOOKUP(A2,CHOOSE({1,2},$Z$1:$Z$99,$Y$1:$Y$99),2,False) to lookup Y values to left of Z values.
Merged cells should be avoided, if possible, because they lead to all kinds of problems for data processing.

Use "Center Across Selection" instead

I may be wrong, but so far as I can tell,

Center Across Selection = Merge selected Cells first, then center the texts

So actually there would be no difference no matter which method you use.

If you're running Office 2003 (I don't know if this works for 2007), you can set it up so that Alt+m will merge your selected cells:

1. Choose 'Tools'
2. Choose 'Customize'
3. Right click on your merge and centre icon on the toolbar at the top of your screen
4. Click 'Image and Text'
5. Close the Customize window

The shortcut Alt+m should now work.

It seems silly that this works, but it's a godsend for me.

another way to merge cell is
Alt + H & then press M, then you can see a small popup window on menu bar showing different options like Merge & Center, Merge Across, Merge Cell & Unmerge Cells.

You are wrong. Center across selection retains the individual cells. It's a huge difference.
