Indent text

I have a spreadsheet where text in column D may repeat several times. The repetitions will always be grouped together. I need to look at the entries in column D and when they repeat I want to indent them five spaces.

So the first occurrence of a text value will be left justified with no indent. All subsequent occurrences will be left justified with a five-space indent.


Is it possible to do this with conditional formatting?

Select column D. Click Conditional Formatting > New Rule > Use a formula > and enter this in the formula box:

=COUNTIF(D$1:D1,D1)>1

Now click the Format... button > select the Number tab > select the Custom Category > and in the Type: box enter:

0;0;0;"     "@
