Guys, I am trying to make a spread sheet that keeps track of what I eat, when I do it and the average time between meals.

I tried Excel since I'm assuming it's doable but of course, to do it, one must be able to explain it to others when one's asking for help.

The actual span of a day is really irrelevant to me because I have insomnia and my days can last 40 hours and it could be from 9 am to 9pm or whatever.
I would like one row to be one of my days. Ie, when I start entering info to when I stop entering is ONE day/one day between sleep that is.

THen I'd like to see how long time between meals for THAT row.

I then do this down the page till I'm done with how many days there are in a month.

At the bottom, it should take all the AVERAGE hours from each row and give me the average of the whole month.

Is that possible and I would be more than happy to upload my spread sheet for you to play around with so you don't have to make a new one. Here, I just uploaded it for you guys to play with if THIS is doable.

I don't see how to make a link but here it is below., If you try to explain, do it is if I were an idiot because that's where I am with written explanations. I would also be up for calling someone to explain it to me/talk me through it
as that works better for me.

QUestions, please ask.

Thanks, George

From 12 am to 1 am to 3 am, shouldn't the average be 1:45 hours? The sheet shows 3 hours..

Thanks

Excel Facts

Can you sort left to right?
To sort left-to-right, use the Sort dialog box. Click Options. Choose "Sort left to right"
I have referenced 12:00 midnight as base in the formula. So I advise not to use 12:00 instead use 12:01.
This will solve the problem.
And, yes, one row is for one day for the current formula.

Cool and thanks a lot for the help.

I know I keep bugging you but I'd like to know IF it is possible to put dates and times so that it keeps calculating over more than a 24 period because I don't have a normal day. Mind you, it doesn't really matter 'cause all that matters is the time between meals. I was just wondering if it was possible.

Thanks again

It is absolutely possible. For simplicity, I did use the midnight format.

Well, that will work for me I think. Like I said, I know how I wanted it but it may not be the best option as it'll totally put the days out of whack and the most important thing is to see how long between meals. NOT when so again, thanks a lot.

IF you by any chance ride motorcycles, let me know. I have a small accessory for bikes and I have a distributor in Australia so I could send you one as thanks for the help. Must have bar weights or hand guards by the way.

Wow! So sweet of you.
I really appreciate it. By the way, I left Canberra last year. I am now in the US.

As soon as I get some extra time, I will work on your problem and provide the solution that works beyond midnight.

Seems like it does, thanks. If I want to double check if its right. SEe how many times I have entered the time and look at the average and then do a calculater, take 24 hours and divide by the same amount of times to get the approximate average?

Thanks

This calculates as follows.
If you entered three of your meal times then it first calculates the difference between first and second meal and then the difference between third and second meal. Then it adds up those two differences and divides by two. Make sense?
Here is an example.
First meal: 7:00 am
Second meal: 10:00 am
Third meal: 12:30 pm

Now difference between second and first meal = 3 hours
Difference between third and second meal = 2 hours 30 minutes
Now the average of two = 2 hours 45 minutes

This is how it works.
Hope this helps.
Thanks.
