I am trying to learn Power Pivots. I have three tables joined and am trying to pull in how many training classes each associate has taken into another table. My tables are called Associate List, Dept Number and Completed Training. I am in the Associate List trying to create a formula that counts each class each associate has taken in the Completed Training table. They are joined by Dept between the Associate List and Dept Numbers and by ID between the Associate List and Completed Training and by Associate Name between the Associate List and the Completed Training. I have a formula in Associate List stating - =DISTINCTCOUNT('Completed Training'[Training Title]) which counts the total distinct training classes for the entire workbook. I want it to count them for each associate. What would my formula be?

Excel Facts

When they said...
When they said you are going to "Excel at life", they meant you "will be doing Excel your whole life".
If you ask this question, you are also telling us you do not have not learned the basics yet.
You have added a calculated column in your data. There is no need for that. Create it as a measure (same formula).

Then use this measure inside a pivot, and put the names of associates in the row section. See what happens. Wouldn't that be what you are after?

A DAX measure works in what is called a filter context. Depending of that context the same formula returns a different result. It might be a good idea to read a book on the matter first.
