I do various work in Excel for electrification, but recently I had a problem with Excel 13 when opening a file with one important table that I had to send to an engineer of one construction company. I've been using Excel 2007 for quite some time, but our office has moved to the 2013 version. The mywork26y.xls file contains an invalid fill ID. I may have problems with my professional reputation if I do not restore this file.:nervous:

Excel Facts

Square and cube roots
The =SQRT(25) is a square root. For a cube root, use =125^(1/3). For a fourth root, use =625^(1/4).
Can you still open the file with Excel 2007? If so, consider saving it as a CSV file and then opening it in 2013. It might work. Good luck!

How to Recover an Excel File That Was Saved Over

Using xls repair tool:

  1. Click "Start" and then "Search."

  1. Select "All Files and Folders" when asked what you want to search for.

  1. Type in "*.xls" (without the quotation marks) under "All or Part of the File Name."

  1. Click on the arrow next to "More advanced options" and make sure that the file type reads "All Files and Folders."

  1. Click the boxes next to "Search System Folders" and "Search Hidden Files."

  1. Click "Search."

Look for an earlier version of your file (it should have a similar name). When it appears, open it to see if it is the version you want.
