Hyperlinks in a Filter Table - I Think I'm Going Crazy

Folks,

I think I just discovered something crazy about hyperlinks in filterable tables within Excel.

Background: I made a database, i.e. filter table of information, for my department to easily search for reports and data. I had to compile information from 4 engineers before me. Information was scattered about the network and everyone had their system on handling reports and data. I decided to bring everything into one folder location and decided to make all my data sets and reports generate in excel (not in Word like those before me). In the table, I hyperlinked to these reports. I figured it would be really easy to find information that way; "Need specific reports for Mr. X on Program Y on dates 2015-2016? Here they all are!"

Issue: I like to filter my table constantly in diferent ways and I think I've descovered something insane! If the hyperlink to the report is an Excel file the hyperlink will follow the filtering of the table. However, if the hyperlink to the report is a Word file then the hyperlink WILL NOT follow the filters but stay locked to the cell! I have looked all over google to see if anyone else has seen something like this or experienced it to make sure I am not going crazy. I haven't found anything.

Has someone here seen this issue before? Can someone please confirm? Any Idea on why this works like that?

There is a simple solution and that is to transfer all the old reports to an excel format. It will take a while to do, but I like easily searchable and organized data and reports so I think its worth the time.
