How to total the visible cells?
From the first blank cell below a filtered data set, press Alt+=. Instead of SUM, you will get SUBTOTAL(9,)
If you are just trying to convert the numerical values to text values, try this.
  1. Select the column by clicking its heading label
  2. Data ribbon tab -> Text to Columns -> Delimited -> Next -> Next -> Click the 'Text' option -> Finish
